Our farm is 25 acres, zoned agricultural. All buyer has to do to get farm tax rate is to agree to have 5 horses or more or 5 acres or more in a crop.

We have an all brick, German Colonial house with 4 bedrooms, 2 complete bathrooms, a large mostly finished basement, air conditioning, new wood floors downstairs, new carpet upstairs, 3 year old bathroom and 2 year old kitchen. We have a large generator with its own electric panel and it can run most of the farm, the house as well as the water and electric in the main barn. Our farm is very private and includes a stocked pond and a stream.  The master bedroom is large and includes a sitting room as well as a balcony with a view of the pond. This balcony was totally rebuilt in 2007 with a pretty but eco-friendly Brazilian Ipe wood that lasts for 30 + years.

We also have an in-law apartment with 2 bedrooms, a sitting room, a small kitchen and bathroom with tub and shower located over our garage. This apt. is detatched from the main house with 2 private entrances. It was built only 5 years ago and has never been lived in.  It has its own heating, air conditioning, phone line, electricity and hot water heater. This is a perfect house for an older person who still wants some privacy and to have "their own place," or, it could be rented out or offered to farm workers. Click HERE for photos.

Click on the photo of the barns above for specific information about barns. We are in the process now of building a riding ring and converting several alpaca stalls to horse stalls so that the farm can be used for horses or alpacas (or sheep, goats etc.) or both.

We are in the New Market School district. Photos of Elementary and Middle School above. High School (Linganore) will be closed in 1 year and totally rebuilt. For 2008 / 2009, high school-aged students will go to brand new, Oakdale High School then back to re-built, brand new Linganore High. Our kids went to New Market Elementary and Middle Schools. Both are excellent, small schools with low teacher turnover. The elementary school is a gifted and talented magnet school.

Both schools have very active PTAs, lots of honors classes and lots of student involvement in activities.  Our daughter currently has excellent teachers at Linganore High School and is able to choose from a huge variety of courses and AP courses including Microsoft Network Certification, EMT certification, beautician school, biotechnology and web design to name only a few.  (all courses are paid for by Frederick County public school system.)

Frederick County is very supportive of all farms including alpaca farms. Agriculture is still the number 1 industry of this county. The Great Frederick Fair is only 15 minutes from our farm. This is a regional fair, not a county fair, with an alpaca halter and fleece show and attendance levels in the 140,000 range. The county has a very well advertised Farm Tour which we took part in for 3 years. We are also only 30 minutes from the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, the largest in the U.S. This event attracts spinners, knitters, weavers and livestock buyers from all over the U.S. and even Canada. There could not be any better venue to sell fleece and fleece products.

Our house is approximately 2 miles from the very popular and charming town of Mount Airy. Here is a photo of "My Office" where I do most of my computer work:

Yes, it is the back porch of the house where I can enjoy nature and still plug in the laptop in one of our many outside electrical hookups.
