Mount Airy Cassandra , a white, female alpaca was produced from the breeding of Woods Edge MacGyver and Lanark's Latte.
We were pretty surprised when we bred a maroon female alpaca to a true black alpaca herdsire and got a snow white female alpaca. Remember though, white in alpacas can be one big white spot covering the true color of the fleece or a lightening gene working on the true fleece color. In this case, the dam was a multicolored rose gray and the sire also has the white spotting gene as evidenced by the photo above.
To see a truly interesting illustration of this genetic process, click on Cassandra's page to see the rose gray and black females that she produced.
