Ashford Traditional Spinning Wheel

The Ashford Traditional is easy to learn on and yet it can be used to spin very fine yarns when properly adjusted. It is a single treadle wheel, which some spinners find to be more comfortable to spin on. It is not a replica of any historical wheel but it has a nice tradional look to it that makes it a good choice for school field trips, demonstrations and such.

This is often listed as the most popular spinning wheel in America. It not my favorite. I think there is a dead spot at the top of the turning of the wheel where the spinner has to give a little extra push to get the wheel to turn completely around. Also, I don't like the way the footman have to turn to get bobbins off and on. Though it doesn't look as pretty, I would recommend the Ashford Kiwi over the Ashford Traditional for a beginner's wheel.
